郭常喜承襲父業,於鐵與火交融中走過藝能生涯50餘年,1990年成立『興達刀舖』,榮獲『財團法人國家文化藝術基金會』專款補助研創傳古積層花紋鋼手兵;2002年成立『郭常喜兵器藝術文物館』,榮獲文建會通過為地方文化館;建立傳習教室,通過工藝研究所考評,榮列台灣『工藝之家』;作品先後榮獲第59屆全省美展工藝類入選、第2屆大墩工藝師金工類第一名、2007台灣工藝競賽傳統類入選、2009台灣工藝競賽傳統類佳作、2011台灣工藝競賽傳統類入選;舉辦大小個展、聯展50餘場;推行傳統刀劍藝術不遺餘力。
Kuo Chang Hsi is a sword smith that inherited his father’s business for over 50 years. He built his own firm, Xing Da Knife Shop, in 1990. He receives a grant from National Culture and Arts Foundation (NCAF) and studies the authentic ancient sword-making technique of Chinese multi-layered, veined-steel manufacturing. In 2002, Kuo Chang-Hsi Art Hardware Museum is founded. The museum is evaluated and listed as one of the Craft Houses by National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute. He now dedicates his life to preserve ancient sword-making techniques.
